BBSQ Hosts Minister of Economic Affairs Ahead of "The Made in The Bahamas" National Town Hall Meeting

The Bahamas Bureau of Standards and Quality (BBSQ) welcomed the Minister of Economic Affairs, Senator the Hon. Michael B. Halkitis, to his first official board meeting, where he was greeted by Chairwoman Pauline V. Curry and Executive Director Dr. Renae Ferguson-Bufford.

Minister Halkitis praised the board for its significant efforts in promoting quality assurance and consumer protection, highlighting BBSQ’s essential role in commercial scale and fuel pump verifications, standards promotion, and the conformity assessment of used imported vehicles (Singapore, Japan, UAE, United Kingdom).

This meeting served ahead of the preparations for the upcoming "Made in The Bahamas" Town Hall Meeting, scheduled for Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 5:30 PM at The Holy Trinity Activities Center, Stapledon Garden where the Made in The Bahamas Quality Assurance Mark will be officially launched.

"With this certification, we’re elevating local businesses—from artisans to manufacturers—giving them the recognition they deserve both here and abroad. It will drive economic growth, open new markets, and create jobs for our people" said Halkitis.

Minister Halkitis also highlighted BBSQ’s essential role in maintaining quality and safety standards across The Bahamas. He emphasized the importance of quality promotion, raising awareness about these efforts, and encouraging stronger collaboration with both government and private sector partners to promote quality standards.

As the meeting came to an end, Halikitis expressed his appreciation to the BBSQ board for their dedication to improving standards, noting that these initiatives play a crucial role in elevating the quality of life for all Bahamians.

The "Made in The Bahamas" National Town Hall Meeting is a significant step in BBSQ's ongoing mission to raise awareness about quality assurance and foster a culture of excellence in Bahamian products and services.
