GRAND BAHAMA, The Bahamas — The Ministry for Grand Bahama, in partnership with the Public Hospitals Authority, Grand Bahama Health Services and the Blood Donors Society of Grand Bahama, announced May 22, 2025, the third annual “Gift of Life” blood drive during a press conference at the COLLAB Unit, Harold Degregory Complex.

The initiative aims to raise public awareness about the importance of blood donation and to encourage community participation to help save lives.

Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey, expressed her gratitude for the amount of support they’ve had over the past two years, witnessing hundreds of residents stepping forward and giving selflessly to help others.

“One unit of blood can save lives and every single donation counts. Behind every donation is a story of hope, healing and humanity,” she said.

“Let’s continue to show the strength of our island, not just in words, but in action. Together we can give the greatest gift of all — the gift of saving a life.”

This year’s blood drive will take place on Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 9:00am to 2:00pm at the COLLAB Unit on the first floor of the Harold DeGregory Complex.

The public is encouraged to participate and help make a difference in the lives of those in urgent need of blood.

Blood donors are advised to eat a meal at least 45 minutes to an hour prior to donating and to stay well-hydrated. Those who are unable to give blood are encouraged to support the effort by bringing a friend or helping to spread the word.

Individuals eligible to donate blood must be between the ages of 18 and 65.  Minors ages 15 to 16 may also donate with the consent of a guardian.  Persons over the age of 65 must be in good physical health in order to donate.
