The Department of Labour is committed to ensuring employment for Bahamians. In the best interest of unemployed Bahamian nationals and residents, the Department’s Employment Exchange Section assists job seekers with locating private sector jobs.
Essentially, the Employment Exchange Section matches job vacancies to suitable job seekers.

Eligibility
Interested persons must be Bahamian nationals or residents to qualify for this service.
Process
- Visit the Employment Exchange Section of the Department of Labour, dressed appropriately for an interview with the required documents.
- Fill out an Application for Employment form, and wait to be called by an officer.
- The officer would review the application and counsel the applicant as may be necessary, advising of the existence of any suitable vacancies.
Where suitable vacancies exist, the officer would issue a referral card to the job seeker. If no suitable vacancies exist, the job seeker should visit his / her assigned employment officer at least once a week and call as often as desired to follow-up.

Supporting Documents
- A Bahamian passport or driver’s licence, and a National Insurance number as proof of Bahamian nationality
- A social services card (for those persons on Social Services Continuous Assistance)
- A resident permit, in the case of non-Bahamians, as proof of resident status
- A spousal permit, in the case of non-Bahamian spouses, as proof of resident status
