GRAND BAHAMA, The Bahamas -- Following the demolition of the condemned Police Station in West End on August 28, 2024, Kingsley Smith, Jr., Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry for Grand Bahama and Member of Parliament for West Grand Bahama and Bimini, announced that plans for its redevelopment into a new state-of-the-art facility are a focus for the government.

According to Smith, the new design has been approved by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Clayton Fernander and the architect is now finalising the drawings, which will be submitted for approval by the Ministry of Works & Family Island Affairs.

Officials say this redevelopment project aims to enhance the capabilities of the police force and improve service delivery to the community.

This state-of-the-art facility will not only include a fire station, but also a range of cutting-edge facilities, such as a conference room that can double as an emergency operations center in times of disaster. Additionally, it will include: a laundry room, four living quarters for staff, a gym, an entertainment room, and kitchen facilities with a dining area. It is anticipated that ground will be broken early next year.
