As the Government’s technical focal point for GIS in The Bahamas, the BNGIS Centre is considered a national asset. As such, the Centre makes its resources available for use by government agencies on a first come first serve basis. Available resources for use include a variety of equipment as follows:
- High end plotters
- Large format scanner (color)
- GPS handheld units
- GPS tripods
- Colour printers
- LCD projectors
- Projector screen
Eligibility
Only government agencies can make a request to use these resources. Agencies are required to procure ink, paper supplies and provide technical human resources to setup and print/scan as required. Agency technical officers must have expected level of expertise to use these assets.
Process
- The requesting agency’s department head should submit a formal request addressed to the Director, BNGIS Centre on the relevant form.
- Request is reviewed and based on assessment criteria, the request may be approved/refused.
- The requesting agency’s Department Head will be contacted with a response from the BNGIS Centre within two or three working days.
- Requesting agency which is granted approval is required to return equipment on loan on the stipulated return date.
- Penalties will apply if equipment is not returned, lost or damaged.
- If the requesting agency plans to extend the loan return date, the agency is required to submit a letter for consideration, three days in advance of the initial return date.

Turn-around time
A response to a submitted request is made in three days.
Deadline
Applications should be submitted to the Centre for consideration five working days prior to date when equipment is needed by the requesting agency.
Related Fee(s)
Fees will apply if equipment is lost or damaged. The agency will be obligated to replace systems with new equipment which was on loan from the Centre.
A penalty fee of BS $50.00 per day will apply if equipment is not returned on dates stipulated.
