Private Schedule Franchise, Registration of a

This service is for the registration of a vehicle bearing a Private Schedule plate.

Eligibility

There are no eligibility requirements for this service.

Process

The following steps are applicable when registering a Private Schedule Franchise:

  1. Applicant having been granted a Private Schedule plate must take the relevant documentation to the Road Traffic Department Inspection Centre to have the vehicle inspected.
  2. The Inspector will verify all relevant information and inspect the vehicle.
  3. Upon being satisfied with the condition of the vehicle (trading name on vehicle, condition of tires, condition of bus seats, bus reflectors, tints etc.) the inspector will issue an Inspection Information Form (only for new vehicles) and an Inspection Pass Certificate.
  4. Applicant must then take the required documents along with the Inspection Pass Certificate to the Road Traffic Department Franchise Unit (Clarence Bain Building) for registration of the vehicle.
  5. The Registration Clerk will verify that the relevant vehicle and franchise information provided meets the requirements of the department. If satisfactory, the Clerk will register the vehicle.
  6. The Registration Clerk will calculate fees and issue Vehicle Information Disc for payment.
  7. The applicant must take the Vehicle Information Disc and Pass Inspection Certificate to the Cashier for validation.
  8. The Cashier will inform the applicant of the required fees to have Vehicle Information Disc and Inspection Certificate validated
  9. Upon payment of the required fees by the applicant,  the Cashier will issue the valid Vehicle Information Disc and Inspection Permit.

At the Family Islands, applications can be submitted at the particular Family Island Road Traffic Department located on the main family islands otherwise the application can be made at the Family Island Commissioner’s Office.

Within the same day, once all the required documents are presented.

Deadline

The month of May is Public Service month when all Public Service Vehicles are licenced. Also, inspection is done twice a year for Public Service Vehicles during the month of May and October.

    • Group A - BS$160 – vehicle less than 5,000lbs
    • Group B - BS$560 – vehicle between 5,000lbs and 15,000lbs
    • Group C - BS$760 – vehicles over 15,000lbs
  • Inspection fee: BS$35
  • Public Service Fee: $20.00
