A Scientific Research Permit is granted to local or foreign researchers to authorize marine research and collections within Bahamian waters.
There are no eligibility criteria for this service.

Note – This type of permit cannot be accessed via the Family Islands. All requests for scientific research permits must be sent to the Department of Marine Resources in New Providence for processing.
Application to Conduct Scientific Research Survey or Experimental Projects in the Bahamas
This form can be obtained from the Department of Marine Resources.
First time applicants are required to submit the following supporting documents:
Usually a permit is valid for one year. For persons wishing to renew permits after one year, a letter with a request for renewal must be submitted to the Department of Marine Resources as well as a report of the previous study undertaken must be provided for consideration.
Five to ten business days.
Researchers must have a permit before they start their research.
