Vendors Permit, Applying for a

Anyone interested in selling on areas known as Government Property, requires a Vendor’s Permit.

Eligibility

The applicant must be a citizen/permanent resident of The Bahamas.  

Process

  1. Obtain an application form for a Vendor’s Permit, from the central services division, Ministry of Works & Urban Developmentation.
  2. Complete and Submit a Vendor’s Permit application form along with all supporting documents listed below to the Ministry of Works & Urban Developmentation or local administrator.
  3. The application is then forwarded to the Inter- Agency Committee for consideration.  This committee consist of persons from:
    • Ministry of Works & Urban Development.
    • Ministry of Tourism and Aviation.
    • Physical Planning District Head Quarter of Police Department.
    • Department of Environmental Health.
    • Business Licensing Unit.
  4. Once approval is granted for the Vendor’s Permit, the applicant is then contacted via telephone to collect the Vendor’s Permit.
  5. The applicant must collect the Vendor’s Permit at the designated location.  The applicant must show proof of identification by presentation of a valid I.D. card, driver’s licence or passport.

Supporting Documents

  • A valid I.D. card /driver’s licence/passport.
  • Food Handlers Certificate.
  • A letter of inspection from Environmental Health - if selling food.
  • A letter from District Head Quarters of Police Department.
  • A Valid Business Licence.

Turn-around time

A Vendor’s Permit is processed within one to six weeks following the submission of all documents. Please note that this may vary based on the time of month that the application is submitted. Applications submitted after the last Wednesday before the date of the Inter-Agency committee meeting will be considered at the next Inter-Agency meeting.
