Biography

Senator the Hon. L. Ryan Pinder, Attorney-General and Minister of Legal Affairs is a noted attorney in a leading law firm specializing in private client planning and structures and the areas of International and Domestic taxation.

He served as Member of Parliament for the Elizabeth Constituency from 2010-2014 and Minister of Financial Services from 2012-2014.

Mr. Pinder, born September 13, 1974, is a certified United States tax attorney licensed to practice law in both the USA and The Bahamas. He received his education at the University of Miami where he earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in International Finance and Marketing; a Master’s of Business Administration in Finance; a Juris Doctor Law Degree and the LLM in International Taxation. After practicing law in the US for several years he returned to Nassau and attended the Eugene Dupuch School of Law where he received a Certificate in Legal Education and was admitted to the Bahamas Bar.

On September 20, 2021, he was appointed to the Senate as Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs.

As Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Senator Pinder's portfolio includes:

Legal Advisor to the Government, drafting and preparation of Government Legislation, relations with the Judiciary, relations with the Bahamas Bar Association, Notaries Public, Constitutional Commission, Law Reform and Revision, Legal Education, Law Report, Registration of Documents, Registration of Births, Marriages and Deaths, Registration of Companies, Registration of Business Names, Registration of Commission Merchants, Intellectual Property Rights, Relations with the Utilities Regulations and Competition Authority (URCA) and Freedom of Information. Mutual Legal Assistance, Inquiries, Coroners, Justices of the Peace, Legal Aid and Relations with the Industrial Tribunal.

Mr. Pinder has been active in many civic and social organizations including the Bahamas Breast Cancer Initiative Foundation and Hands for Hunger Foundation.

He is married to Melissa Calvin and they are the parents of two children, Olivia Rose and Leo Austin.
