Biography

A strong, community-minded attorney with a passion for single mothers, teens and the elderly, the Hon. Lisa Rahming is a trailblazer for change with an impressive career in law enforcement.

A graduate of Yellow Elder Primary and R.M. Bailey Senior High School, Minister Rahming entered the Royal Bahamas Police Force in 1993 and progressed from Constable to Assistant Superintendent of Police. During her tenure she served in various capacities as speed cop, homicide and fraud investigator, lead advisor to the Commissioner of Police and prosecutor for the Police Disciplinary Tribunal. She has also served as a legal assistant to judges and a litigator.

Minister Rahming received national and international recognition as one of the founding members of the Urban Renewal 2.0 Program. She has also served as the Assistant Director for the former Urban Renewal Community Band.

On September 16th, 2021 she was elected Member of Parliament for Marathon and appointed Minister of State for Social Services and Urban Development on September 22, 2021. Her portfolio includes: the Department of Gender and Family Affairs, Urban Renewal, urban development, community development, inner city development and relations with the Urban Renewal Commission.

Her notable achievements include: the Police Commissioner’s Commendation Award for Excellent Service in Urban Renewal 2.0, the Meritorious Award from the Governor General for stellar Performance on the Royal Bahamas Police Force and the Governor General’s award for Long Service and Good Conduct.

Minister Rahming was born on February 19, 1976. She lists her hobbies as travelling, meeting new people and teaching literacy to children.

She is a member of the apostolic faith and the mother of one daughter, Adriel Atarah.

Minister Rahming was named the Minister of State for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Renewal on September 11th, 2023 during a reshuffle of cabinet by The Prime Minister of The Commonwealth Of The Bahamas. Her portfolio includes The Department of Housing, Implementation of Government’s Housing Scheme, Development of New Housing Subdivisions, Construction of Medium and Low-Income Housing, Sale of Service Lots, Housing Loan Guartantee With Approved Lenders Scheme, Relations with The Bahamas Mortgage Corporation and Provision and Maintenance of Public Rental Units and Senior Citizens Home.
