GRAND BAHAMA, The Bahamas – Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey encouraged the newly-elected members of the City of Freeport Council to lead with integrity, vision and a spirit of service.
Minister Moxey was bringing remarks at the swearing in ceremony for the City of Freeport District Council at Pelican Bay Resort on March 14, 2025.
“Your commitment and collaboration are key to the Government’s plan to rebuild and revitalize Grand Bahama,” she said, adding that the ceremony marks the beginning of a renewed commitment to progress, recover and transform the island of Grand Bahama.
She congratulated the nine councillors, assured them that they are not alone and noted that the future of the island is brighter when all of the stakeholders work together to meet the needs of the residents in the community, drive economic recovery, and create new opportunities for growth and development.
“The community of Grand Bahama is rooting for you. The Government firmly believes in the immense potential of our Family Islands and Grand Bahama Island – a potential that we are committed to nurturing,” Minister Moxey said.
“This administration recognizes that Grand Bahama is the voice, ears, eyes, hands and feet of the community and the vehicle capable of unlocking this potential and driving Family Island and Grand Bahama development.”
Minister Moxey pointed out that the Government enacted the Local Government Bill, 2024 as it is a critical piece of legislation that prioritizes the needs of each island by decentralizing the decision-making process and placing the power in the hands of local bodies who possess first-hand knowledge of their community’s needs.
The newly installed practitioners — Chief Councillor Kendal Culmer, II, Deputy Chief Councillor Bernard Grant, Precious Prosper, Ronald Darville, Jr., Jordan Curry, Marco Carey, Rachad Adderley, Edwin Strachan and Clifton Cleare-Francis — were also presented with their instruments.
Chief Councillor Kendal Culmer, II, thanked well-wishers present for their support, vowed that whatever is done for one community will be duplicated in all, and revealed that their goal is that, at the end of their tenure, the constituents feel happier, safer and prouder and that there is a greater voter turnout because of it next time around.
